Understanding Fire Ratings

A relocking device triggers if the safe is subjected to a forced entry attempt, permanently blocking the bolt mechanism. This means an unsuccessful attack leaves the safe locked shut and requiring professional opening — but it also means the contents were not taken.

This is where most home safe purchases fall short. A safe that is not secured to the building can be removed from the premises and opened elsewhere at leisure. A lightweight freestanding safe from a hardware store, unbolted in a wardrobe, offers effectively no protection against a determined thief.
